Airtel Offering 100% Cashback on Rs. 349 Recharge Pack Using Airtel Payments Bank

Image
Airtel has now come up with a cashback offer to counter Reliance Jio. Airtel is offering 100% cashback on unlimited pack recharge of Rs. 348 or Rs. 349. However, 100% cashback is not provided with a single recharge. Airtel says that this a Diwali offer, but the operator did not reveal the offer expiry date. Also, the customer has to recharge using the Airtel Payments Bank to get the cashback, and he can use the cashback elsewhere. Currently, you can pay using Airtel Payments Bank at more than 1 million outlets across the country. Do make a note that this offer works only with the Rs. 348 or Rs. 349 plan. This offer sounds a lot familiar like the recent Reliance Jio Diwali offer, under which the newcomer also offered 100% cashback on the recharge of Rs. 399. However, Jio offered the cashback in the form of vouchers, which you can use for future recharges, but Airtel is offering Rs. 50 cashback itself, which can be used for any purpose. Having said that, this offer differs from perso

MIUI 9 will support “Black Technology” for improved performance

Image
I guess we all know by now that the next MIUI 9 version of Xiaomi’s user interface will be announced next week (July 26) along with the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 5X model. OK so far? This new MIUI version brings a lot of software improvements, bug fixes but also changes in the way we use (and see) the menus as you can understand. For example it will include the desk dock column which changes its position. Also the dock bar has been eliminated, leaving only the icons (which is something a lot of us asked for  -I guess –  for years now). Several changes have also been made to the lock screen appearance: now there’s a lot of free space, with some shortcuts for Universal Remote Control, Mi-Pay, and Xiaomi Bus on the left side, along with another shortcut to open the Flashlight feature (note that we’re talking specifically for the Chinese ROM, which will be the first to get the MIUI 9 update). As you may already know so far, there will be new features such as split screen and recording funct

Of course, Snapdeal isn’t worth $850 mn, but in e-commerce world, weird is normal

What explains Flipkart’s generous offer to Snapdeal? In a word, SoftBank If SoftBank adequately funds Flipkart and helps it stave off the threat from Amazon.com Inc., who knows, all who are involved in the current circuitous transaction will end up with smiles. Photo: Hemant Mishra/Mint Online retailer Flipkart has sent a revised buyout offer of roughly $850 million to smaller rival Snapdeal, according to a  Mint  report . This is about $150 million more than its offer about two weeks ago, which was rejected by Snapdeal’s board. Is Snapdeal worth that much? Of course not. Its market share has shrunk rapidly and it has all but disappeared from the list of preferred venues for online shopping. Left on its own, Snapdeal will collapse. What then explains Flipkart’s generous offer? In a word, SoftBank. If Snapdeal collapses, SoftBank will end up with egg on its face for investing nearly $1 billion in a failed venture. To save face, it is reported to be negotiating a deal with Flipkart

Reliance Jio Against Airtel

Image
Reliance Jio has moved Bombay High Court against Bharti Airtel and global broadband tester Ookla for running advertisements proclaiming Airtel to be India's fastest network. Jio says it lost reputation and money on the campaign that amounts to conspiracy, defamation and breach of trust, among others. It also named Ziff Davis, a digital media company that acquired Ookla in 2014, in the complaint. In an emailed statement to ET, a spokesperson said Airtel has not received a copy of Jio's complaint. Airtel labelled the allegations as "frivolous and baseless" and reflecting the "growing frustration of a competitor that has been unable to make a dent despite offering free services and predatory pricing." Jio and Ookla did not respond to ET's queries. Ziff Davis could not be reached for comment. Bad blood is brewing between the two telcos — owned by Mukesh Ambani and Sunil Bharti Mittal — as Jio asked for trial under Sections 204, 406, 420, 465, 499 and 12

Digital platforms to drive growth in media and entertainment

Image
India's media and entertainment industry is forecast to touch $34.8 billion by 2021, logging a CAGR of 11.8 per cent in the preceding five years, paced by significant growth in digital platforms that would increasingly draw more eyeballs than competing outreach vehicles. According to EY's report on the industry, released at the FICCI-IIFA Global Business Forum in New York, growth in digital media businesses would far outpace TV, print, radio or music concerts at 26 per cent CAGR between 2016 and 2021. With an economy of $2.3 trillion and expanding at a rate north of 7 per cent, India remains an under-advertised country, compared with OECD economies. Total advertising spends across all segments in India, which stood at $8.18 billion in 2016, will double to $16.7 billion in 2020. While print media and TV together accounted for 76.2 per cent of the total revenue from advertising in 2016, mobile advertising has emerged as the third largest advertising medium. The report, titl
