MIUI 9, the upcoming proprietary Android UI from  Xiaomi  is now speculated to be available from July. The new leak has not revealed the names of the Mi devices that will be receiving the MIUI 9 update. The MIUI 9 is not expected to bring visual changes but it is expected to bring some new features. Xiaomi was speculated to make the split-screen mode available on MIUI 8. However, it is now expected to come with MIUI 9 on Android Nougat devices. The other feature that is expected to arrive with MIUI 9 update is picture-in-picture functionality. Finance ministry on Friday asked telecom firms to cut call rates after GST as under the new indirect taxation regime they will get various tax credits for goods and services used to provide telecom services in the country. The ministry said these tax credits would reduce the “telecom companies’ liability to pay GST through cash to about 87 per cent of what they paid in the last fiscal.” This means if telecom players cut call rates as asked by the finance ministry, even a three per cent increase in tax rate on mobile services will result in overall call cost for the consumer to either remain same or come down marginally after July 1. The Centre in the past has indicated that it will not shy away from implementing anti-profiteering clause if any firm refused to pass the benefit of GST to consumers. Digital wallet firm Paytm launched the country’s third payments bank earlier this week. Though the Vijay Shekhar Sharma-led company was expected to be the first to get its payments bank off the ground, operations finally started after more than a year’s delay. Despite the delay, Paytm Payments Bank is offering an interest rate of merely 4% on deposits, which is in line with what scheduled commercial banks offer. Bharti Airtel Ltd, the first-mover, launched its payments bank operations with 7.25% interest rate, much higher than what banks offer on savings and current accounts and on a par with fixed deposits. State-run India Post floated its payments bank quietly with 5.5% interest rate. Usually, late entrants try to upset the existing order by offering customers a better deal. Vodafone India on Thursday announced integrated plans offering unlimited voice and bonus data to its prepaid customers starting from Rs 19 per day. Vodafone's two integrated "Voice plus Data" plans - Vodafone SuperDay and Vodafone SuperWeek - will enable its prepaid customers to enjoy benefits of unlimited local and STD calling with free data up to 250 MB for seven days. Under its Vodafone SuperDay plan, Vodafone is offering unlimited local and STD Vodafone-to-Vodafone calls and 100 MB data on 4G handsets at Rs 19 per day, the company said in a press release. Vodafone's move comes amid heightened competition witnessed by existing operators in India's telecom industry due to aggressive voice call and data pricing by new entrant  Reliance Jio , say analysts. Though we got out first peek at Android O back in March, Google finally revealed more details this week at its I/O developers conference about the soon-to-drop version of Android. Though we're still quite a ways away from the official release, we now a lot more about the update.
