WhatsApp to steal one of Line’s best features
The hugely popular messaging service WhatsApp is about to add the option for users to send stickers and large emojis, it has been reported.
A renowned tipster, WABetaInfo has published screenshots apparently from the latest beta version, that appear to show stickers very similar to those used on Line, and which more recently were added to Facebook Messenger.
Line has used the stickers as a massive revenue generator with company reportedly earning $10 million a month from its 230 million registered users.
Apple has already realised the potential of stickers and introduced them on the iMessage service for the iOS 10 last year.
Of course, this isn’t the first feature WhatsApp has added that has perhaps been inspired from elsewhere.
Last year, the world’s most popular messaging platform added voice and video calling options for users of its desktop version and mobile apps
.
It also added the option to send animated GIFs, while a feature that is remarkably similar to one found on rival Snapchat, which allows users to send messages that disappear after 24 hours was added in February of this year.
More recently, WhatsApp has added a few of its own unique and very useful features which will further help to cement its popularity among users.
Earlier this month, the addition of a new ‘pinned chats’ feature was announced that lets users pin their favourite or most important conversations to the top of their WhatsApp profile.
The Facebook owned messaging service also recently added an extra layer of security for users on iOS.
