Twitter launches new 'mute notifications' option to keep spammers at bay

Haven't most people on Twitter been infuriated by those unwanted notifications and spam tweets that often pop on your timeline? Well, there's good news for the infuriated lot. Twitter is making it easier for users to keep spammers and unwanted notifications at bay. The micro blogging website has introduced new 'advanced' options to mute notifications from those accounts that you don't follow.

Users can now access 'Advanced filter settings' to simply mute notifications of accounts that you don't follow, accounts that don't follow you, accounts that are new (that you don't follow), accounts with a default profile photo (that you don't follow), accounts without a confirmed email address (that you don't follow) and accounts without a confirmed phone number (that you don't follow).

The advanced notification filters can be set up on the web through the 'Notifications' tab on the timeline. Users would have to tap on the 'Settings' option and check the boxes of preferred filters.

iOS users would have to tap on the 'Gear' icon in the notifications tab, followed by 'Advanced filters' to access the options. Android users would have to follow the same directions.

Twitter is routinely introducing new features and upgrades for its users. One recent feature Twitter introduced was the Automatic Night Mode. Until now, users had to manually toggle Night Mode to get dark background in the app. As its name suggests, 'Automatic Night Mode' turns on the Night Mode at sunset. It is worth noting that users can change 'Automatic Night Mode' to manual from the app's settings.

To activate 'Automatic Night Mode' on Android, users simply need to open the sidebar by tapping on their profile image or swiping towards right from the main feed, and tap on the 'Settings and privacy' tab. This includes the 'Display and sound' option, under which 'Automatic at sunset' option can be activated.

A few weeks back, Twitter made cosmetic changes to its interface for Web, Android and iOS platforms.
