Video thumbnails preview rolling out to YouTube's desktop version
YouTube has starting rolling out video thumbnail previews for its primary desktop website. The popular video sharing service announced the availability of the feature via its global Twitter handle. Video thumbnails work by hovering the cursor on the thumbnail of a YouTube video, which then creates a 3-second preview thumbnail from the first half of the video.
As confirmed by YouTube to a user on Twitter, video thumbnails are currently only available in Google Chrome and Opera browsers. In reply to another user, the company confirmed that the feature is automated and content creators have no role in selecting clips for thumbnails.
Last year, when the company launched YouTube Go (which is specially designed for India), it had a video preview feature that let users take a sneak peek before deciding to watch a video.
Back in April, YouTube rolled out a beta version of YouTube Go app on Google Play Store in India.
Recently, YouTube rolled out a new update for its Android app. The update introduces a revamped UI, relocating the navigation bar to the bottom of the app. Along with the bottom-placed navigation bar, the size of the top bar has been reduced as well. The new navigation bar has five tabs - Home, Subscription, Trending, Shared and Library.
Video upload button now sits beside the search button, while the profile icon directs users to their Account page. The update also brings a new channel list, placed below the top bar under the Subscription tab. It shows the list of user's subscribed channels. Under the Library tab. Users can view their YouTube history, saved offline videos and My videos, and do more.
Besides this, the company also gave a sneak peek of the revamped layout for its website.
